Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber” (John 10:1).
As foolish as it would be for a thief to come to the front door of your house, it would be even more unbelievable for you to invite him in. Yet there is a thief that never sneaks in. He never comes unannounced. Every time he arrives, he arrives with other guests. These other guests are expected. They go by the names of Finances, Health, Relationships, Marriage, Children, Employment, and so many more. All of these guests we welcome into our lives. We don’t mind—in fact we embrace—these things. But not the thief that accompanies them.
The thief has a name, too: Worry. He is a thief because he steals from us. He takes away our contentment and our reliance upon God. He robs us of trust and joy. He is a most wicked, uncaring intruder. And yet we open the door of our hearts to him. When the aforementioned guests arrive, Worry is standing there. But do not let him in. Shut the door of your heart to him. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Phil. 4:6). This way you can experience all the pleasure of the guests, only without the thief of Worry.
In Christ, Pastor David
