Dear Woodland Acres Church family,

I would like to take one last opportunity to express my appreciation for the ways you have loved and supported me for all these years. The gifts of love, encouraging words, and financial support have been truly moving and have only added to the love I have for this church. Many of you have played integral roles in my life and have personally helped me meet and overcome some very difficult challenges. For that, I am extremely grateful. I would greatly appreciate your continued support in these and any other ways God would lay on your heart.
As I begin this new phase in life, I am obviously very excited, but also a little trepidation. I know that what God has planned for me in seminary and my future ministry positions will be thrilling and fulfilling. But this is my first time in almost 9 years of not knowing what will happen next. I know, however, that God is faithful and has a plan that will better for me than anything I could have planned. But in everything, I will still need your support. Here are some areas that I will need prayer:

School:
As I begin this time as a graduate student, I will need focus and discipline to keep up with a very rigorous academic program. Please pray that with God’s strength, I will be able to study and prepare in a way that will honor Him, with results that will prepare me well for ministry.

Work: I will not immediately be seeking a position at a church. I am planning on finding a church with a great student ministry and getting involved there; hopefully to learn from someone who is doing it well. This will require me to find a job or jobs that will provide the money I need to live there and pay for tuition, as well. Please pray that God will provide a job that meets my needs and which will provide me an opportunity to show Christ to the world.

Church:
It may seem surprising, but the friends I have talked to in Ft. Worth have told me that there are actually very few good, Christ-centered, gospel preaching churches in Ft. Worth. Please pray that God will lead me to a church that honors Him with the way they preach and do ministry, where I can be invested in and trained to continue to do ministry.

Once again, thank you all so much for all the support you have lovingly given. Woodland Acres has always had a special place in my heart and will continue to do so. If you would like to continue to hear what God is doing in my life, please send me an email at I will be making up a monthly newsletter to email out. I would love to continue to share my life with you so we can all share in God’s goodness and provision in my life.

This is the verse God has laid on my heart throughout this process. The situations are not the same, but the sentiment is:
“And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there,” Acts 20:22

God bless you all,
Russell Powell
